No child's play.

With the birth of an infant, a mother , too , is born. Earlier she was a daughter,

sister, friend, wife and with the first cry of her baby she graduates to a new

role i.e. a mother.

I would say she starts to prepare for her role as soon as she is pregnant.

Consuming a balanced diet supplemented by folic and calcium tablets under

the doctor's advice and regular check-ups to the hospital are the agenda on

her diary.

The modern women along with her professional duties and  household work

starts to prepare herself for the entry of a new member.

My friend Varsha had presented me with books on how to take care of in

pregnancy and I diligently read and absorbed each word. The changes and

growth in each trimester were clearly written and depicted . Staying in

nuclear families, these books were a fountain-head of information and

succour in the absence of a mother-in-law or an elderly guide.

With the first cry of my baby , my hubby had to scour shops for newborn

baby clothes, cloth diapers, baby bed , blanket and pillow. Choosing the

best  was an uphill task.

Looking for comfort rather than frilly exterior was paramount. Hopping

and shopping  was not easy and for the first time we realized that it's not ,

' bacchoan Ka Khel' or a child's play.

My child's pram/stroller was chosen after much scepticism and hesitation.

The first tiffin box and water bottle was gifted by a close friend. The school

bag was picked after trial and error. The first footwear for school was chosen

on the recommendation of the shop-keeper.

As I look back and ruminate, I wish I had a guide to navigate the labyrinth

maze of shopping for the right products without much heartburn.

FirstCry.com 's website allows easy browsing and choosing of the baby products

from a wide array of products. It is a boon to the hassled parents. From the

confines of one's home or office, one can choose a baby product and even

order it. At the click of a button, shopping can be completed without an

arduous trekto the market. One is spoilt for choice in the galaxy of variety

of products. The different brand specifications and prices ( discounted

prices) are clearly mentioned and picking and shopping

becomes an enjoyable experience. There is no room for ambiguity or doubt.

Silent language

She encouraged tactile experiences.

Eyes, fingers and body language are the medium of communication,
she implored.
Explore.

The other senses come to rescue when one sense is deprived at

birth.

Christine ruled our world of silence and we were willing students.

Bubbles

               Five Sentence Fiction – Bubbles

The dark, gloomy atmosphere with the rains pouring was a dampener

on her mental landscape.

"I wish to see the myriad colours of the rainbow", said she.

Suddenly hundreds of bubbles danced before her eyes, the

pear-shaped structure changing hues and bursting at the slightest

touch.

Her eyes widened , a smile broke out increasing her face value and she

danced to the melody of her heart.

He smiled and whispered,"love in every season , love for every reason".

saving face

In shame , I hang my head
when the animal instinct

overpowered the moral thread
a woman's dignity lost precinct.

With fear, I turned my face
when the communal fire scorched

bodies and humanity at a furious pace.
no words escaped from throat parched.

My eyelashes lowered
when a scam scarred the society

Is there anything left to be read?
the tainted headlines, a pity.

My face seethed with anger
when rapacious hands dug

the bowls of Earth , endanger
mowed the garden, green rug

How long the face will face an assault?
aloud screams my silence
my agony breaks from the vault
tattered is my resilience

Its time to raise my question(s)
shake off the shackles

march ahead to a revolution
imprison the jackals

Adopt the mantra : live and let live.

Alert cop

Being branded a fart by his superiors, he was desperate to prove otherwise.

The innocuous object looked out of place in a children's park.

He picked it and flung it.

The thermometer exploded, reflecting a fire-ball on lake surface.

The white flakes settled on every possible space blanketing the chilly gloom

prophesying the inevitable.

A binocular lay on the palisade.

All eyes turned in the direction of the chauffeured silver metallic BMW

heralding the arrival of fur and solitaires adorned Duchess Slakefield.

Two pairs of polished red stilettos followed the dowager with hurried steps.

The temperature inside was optimal and the shadows dim.

The curtain parted revealing the grand setting and the characters.

A gunshot.

Chaos reigned.

Audience went berserk.

The binocular smiled.

Four stilettos missing.

The slumped fur-coat stained red.

The finale of “Who killed Mary?” remained incomplete.

cobweb of suspicion

Image result for spider's web

A maze

Spider’s web.

Spooling each sticky layer

Lust greed anger.......

I peered

A germ lay in abyss, camouflaged, coiled

SUSPICION.

Spinning deceit

Deluding

Poisoning.

Picking the broom, I swept clean

Sanctum sanctorum of my mind.

Enter my temple with clean feet.

Up or down

Eyelashes stare , gazing
At the spiralling depth

My spirits began to spin.

The ornamental side-rail
Screamed for attention

I didn't admire it.

Each step, a hurdle
I pronounced, with scarce

Doubts assailed, multiplied
The enigmatic steps

Running down
Or climbing in an ascent?

How would she reach me?

Should I languish in eternity?

Or make a move?
The echo of her

Red-heeled feet ,

I peered in the direction
Unsure i was

Was she gaily dressed in colours?

Or mourning in black?
Tapping  of her feet

Grew louder.

With a face
Devoid of emotions,
Her shadow crossed mine.
Away she melted
Into nothingness

Folly,  I realized

Long after she left.

The fragrance of her silent sermon
I inhaled deeply.

Oscillating pendulum of laughter

or tick-tock of gloom

Will pass away, merge.
Change is constant
Seasons change
But hope is eternally green.

breathless track

July 15, 2015 prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a breathless moment. Write about life.

Beads of saline perspiration trickled down, but the perfectionist  in her kept her vision steady on her goal.

The frenzied uproar in a crescendo was vaguely heard and her ears were fixated on the gunshot.

Raising her torso, she was ready for the big moment.

Her body sprang forward and the panting and heaving did not cease.

The wind was amazed by her rapacity and made way for her.

The moment of climax coincided with the deafening applause and her own heart-beats echoed.

Her athletic feat earned her a gold in Olympics.

Though breathless, she completed the victory lap.
