Word Prompt

 Taste

Photo Prompt

Challenge
Prose Challenge – Write a story in 35 words, inspired by the theme of taste, without actually including the word “taste” in it.
Grandpa gingerly picked one of the baked goodies and sucked it.
He winced.
His toothless smile discerned the goof-up of his grand-daughter’s maiden attempt at baking.

The jars of Salt and sugar had been interchanged.

Abundant reap

Weekend Writing Prompt #19 – Abundance

                                        Photo Prompt

word prompt : Abundance

Challenge
Prose Challenge – Write a story that focuses on a quality that you think the world could do with in abundance.  Word limit: 150 words.
The timely rainfall had the rivers overflowing its embankments. The bountiful crop filled

the granaries and the bucolic scent bathed the simple peasants.

The Angel smiled brimming with satisfaction.

The Satan winced with displeasure.

The war was declared and winning became inevitable.

Satan spread the shadow of his ugly claws.  Soon the village was dotted with liquor shops

brewed from the excess grains. The simple hearts drowned themselves in sin, fighting,

abusing and creating unrest. The Monster smiled stroking his claws.

The words of the clergyman soothed the disturbed minds. Realising their folly, they shed

their vices and donned the cloak of righteousness. Peace reigned. The abundance was

donated to the underprivileged, bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots.

Philanthropy thrived.
The Angel waved his wand on the sleeping village. In the dark of the night, the shadow of

Satan beat a retreat.

Abundance

Weekend Writing Prompt #19 – Abundance

Poetry Challenge – Write a non-rhyming poem, in 15 lines or less, that includes the words:

  • abundance
  • prosperity
  • plenty

She sowed a seed,
on the fertile farm of motherhood.
She reaped an abundance of bounty,
the prosperity made her content.
her child's smiles, plenty,
the cup runneth over.

With wrinkled hands she waves,
from the blue clouds.
A cocoon she have woven,
around him, protecting him,
from all lurking dangers.

Untie him from your apron strings,
wisely cajoles the angel.
Let him take risks, lead his life,
It is his life, after-all.

Empty painting

Weekend Writing Prompt #17 – Emptiness

Prose Challenge – Write a 50 word story inspired by the image above.  What is it? A blank screen edged in static? A chalkboard with no writing on it?  The strange view out of a window, perhaps from a spaceship?  You tell us.

Word Prompt : Emptiness
Bonus point for including any of the following words: emptiness, void, or abyss.

Black and white were the colours of her canvas. Her brush trudged with the strokes of

emptiness of her reflection. With forlorn look at the painting she jumped, tearing the

canvas, into the abyss of loneliness embracing the blackness and plunging into the valley

of no return. Rest-in-peace, tired soul.

compressed smiles inwardly.
myriad melange of blue, green,
unveils plumage and preen
wooing its insouciant mate
beckoning for amorous date.

Expectant brown heels raised
stare at blue horizon dazed.
Clouds black gather
overcrowding like lather,
shyly gazing down,laden with passion
awaiting the feathered union.

thunder's decibel of explosion ,
firmament releases  emotion
to satisfy the earthly need
red mud satiate from the feed.
parched chasms extends its arms
frothy rivulets embrace every farms.

Green sprouts spread their gown
hermits in orange, wisdom renown
peaceful doves in white
Tri-colour fluttering high and bright

Holi : festival of colours.

Weekend Writing Prompt #16 – Colours

Word Prompt : Colours
Photo Prompt

Challenge
Prose Challenge – Pick a saying that has a colour in it (green as envy, seeing red, blue murder, not black and white, etc) and write a story about it, using no more than 100 words.
Poetry Challenge – Write a poem of any length that includes all the colours of the rainbow.

The larger than life portrait of multi-colour flowers loomed large over my boss’s round

pate.

“Boss, wanna a holiday for Holi”, words barely escaped.

“Why?”

I found no answer.

“We lead such a colour-ful life. Our competitors want us in red, shareholders perpetually

expect the company to be in black, green is the colour of our neighbours, personal

taxation leaves us colourless, life’s vagaries beat us black and blue, wife’s perception is

jaundiced, now many more colours do you want to add?” he panted.
I remove my rose-tinted glasses, pinch myself when I see a rainbow ahead. Aha a mirage.

Note: - Holi, a traditional Hindu festival, celebrates the beginning of spring as well as the
triumph of good over evil. It is best known around the world for the colourful powder
(called gulal in local language) that revellers throw on each other, leaving festival goers
coated in colour by the end of the day. it is a day of fun and rejoicing and partaking of
sweets with family.

Parting at the crossroad

Weekend Writing Prompt #12 – Indecision

Challenge
Prose Challenge – Write a story in no more than 300 words that begins at a crossroads.
Poetry Challenge – Write a poem in no more than 20 lines that contains the following words at least once:
  • indecision
  • sign or signpost
  • choice
  • hesitating or dithering

The lone sign post indicating the place of my onward journey stood rooted to the ground.

It pointed out to the right direction. What option should I have to choose? And why? I was

staring at the strange crossroads of my life.

The tranquil countryside could not tame the reverberations nay the hurricane gathering

in my mind. Uncertainty and indecision were the twin tormentors.

The judge looked solemnly at me. I could feel his piercing glare pitying me.

“Angela, whom do you choose to live with?”

I looked at mom. Her quivering and imploring lips wanted me. Dad’s countenance gave

me freedom. A part of me wanted to be with both of them, together. I didn’t want to

split my happiness piecemeal.

Something had gnawed the happy family of three over a decade. The fabric of relationships was

slowly pulled on either sides. The threads of bonds withstood the tension albeit for a short period of

time. Slowly the tatter was visible. The two warring parties held on to their pieces of grievances and

refused to mend the differences.

The acrimonious parting was inevitable.

“Angela, whom do you choose to live with?” pierced my eardrum and shook my senses.

A pair of eyes complete the vision. Could one eye do any justice? How do I choose and

whom?

I gulped down wetting my parched throat.

“I choose life”, I declared.

My Godmother embraced me.  “Welcome Angela”, she said warmly.

She smiled and wished me, “Happy sixteenth birthday, Angela”.

My parents had forgotten a milestone of my life.
