breasts : Parts of the body

Breast is defined by Merriam-Webster as either of the pair of mammary glands extending

from the chest in Pubescent and adult human females. The literary meaning of breast is

the center of a person's feelings.

The dreaded C spreads its claws on this part of the human anatomy. In India there are

more than 1 million cases per year. In USA, women are affected by the Big C more than

men.

Breast Self Exam (BSE) should be done at the end of monthly period. If your period is

irregular or hit menopause, choose a specific day of each month.

If one finds a lump , do not panic. See a doctor. 80% of the lumps are not cancerous.

Ladies should  not by shy or be hesitant to fix an appointment with the doctor. Consider

your doctor as a friend. Speak up frankly about the changes or pains. Early diagnosis

helps.

Hygiene : Wear a proper fitting bra preferably cotton. Change into a fresh set of

underclothes at least twice a day.

Breastfeeding or Nursing is the feeding of  new-born and young children with milk from a

woman's breasts. Breastfeeding begin within the first hour of a baby's life and continue as

often and as much as the baby wants. During the first few weeks of life babies may nurse

roughly every two to three hours and the duration of a feeding is usually ten to fifteen

minutes on each breast. Older children feed less often. Mothers may pump milk so that it

can be used later when breastfeeding is not possible. Breastfeeding has a number of

benefits to both mother and baby, which infant formula lacks.

                                             Beat the beast.

The entertainment industry was not kind to her. Where the emphasis is on the perfect

body and looks, she was no longer the center-stage. She was quickly replaced by another

nubile starlet.

The long hours at the studios and outdoor shoots, rave parties, alcohol had taken a toll

on her health; physical and well as mental.

She made a clean breast of her life to the tabloids and to the public. She started an

awareness programme for women. She kept abreast of the news on newer and effective

research developments on breast cancer. She showed the world that there was a

beautiful and meaningful life after defeating the dreaded C.
