The prompt is from the lovely Aditi of Life Is A Journey….Make It BeaYOUtif
I’d do things differently
When I was a kid, I loved doing things the way my other
classmates did not do. This way my little ego was boosted and a smile of
satisfaction spread on my face and my tagline was, “I'd do things differently”.
But a small pin-prick to the ballooned ego burst my confidence
and no confetti decorated my head but only
anger and subsequent tears burst out. I was asked to follow the crowd. My
teacher said that there was a risk in treading the untrodden path. I would be
all alone. But I do not agree to it. Do you?

I also don't agree with her Kalpana.... I agree there are risks of treading on the untrodden paths but then sometimes you also end up finding a new way and doing something you have never done before. And what is life without any risks? We need to take some of them otherwise there will be no newness left in life!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
Privy , as a teacher she taught us the finer aspects of the language but as a human being she never allowed us to experiment and I loved to do it my way. When I read this prompt, it brought back some not so-pleasant memories. but life is like that.
DeleteWe belong to the same league of non-conformist Kalpana :) A fine take on the prompt :)
ReplyDeleteI have company. thank you sunita.
DeleteSometimes it is interesting to do things as you like and not to follow the beaten path.
ReplyDeleteUsha Maam , I agree. At times we have to tread the untrodden path to find a new path for other to walk behind us.
DeleteI always was a little different and followed my own drummer. Because of that I kind of was friends with everyone but never close friends with anyone if that makes any sense. Loved your take on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy. There is an element of intoxication of doing things our own way.
Deletefollow your heart and the happiness one gets from it is mindblowing!
ReplyDeletebeautiful take on this, kalpana :)
I prefer to follow my heart and do things my way and even if its the wrong path , its okay as I am learning and unlearning my way.
DeleteI liked your take on the prompt. I kinda disagree with your teacher. We all have our own perceptions about how we want to reach where we want to and do things differently nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteKajal , me and my teacher always were at loggerheads with each other even though she was a good teacher. As you said we all have our own perceptions and no-one can force the other to accept the other's point of view.
DeleteEven when you are alone... right will always be right...
ReplyDeletethoughtful post
I fully agree with you , Rajlakshmi.
DeleteI don't agree too. The path may be difficult but at least we will derive joy and happiness. Believe in your dreams and always listen to your heart:)

Till today I believe that its satisfying to follows the heart's diktat. We will always learn from our own mistakes and triumphs.
DeleteInnovation like this is supressed because of teacher's fear of not being able to handle! Its entirely teacher's fault!
ReplyDeleteYes, i do agree with you and a teacher after all is human too.
DeleteExactly the opposite of what your teacher said should be taught to children.. Guess, people are afraid of having too many thinkers around :( Superb attempt on the prompt
ReplyDeleteKalpana I have nominated you for Liebster Award from my blog. Hope you would accept it :) :)
Thank you Jyotsna , i will soon accept it.
DeleteUntrodden paths bring more challenges, but also supreme rewards. :-) More effort, less competition!
ReplyDeleteUntrodden paths bring more challenges, but also supreme rewards. More effort, but less competition. Only the courageous can make that decision!
ReplyDeleteWhat an encouraging comment , Vidya. Thank you so much.
DeleteTaking a different route from the crowd can be challenging but it certainly makes a big difference sooner or later and has its own rewards too!
ReplyDeletenot only challenging but satisfying too, Shilpa.
Delete"My teacher said that there was a risk in treading the untrodden path." If not a teacher, then someone else. This is drilled into us. And I think it is totally wrong. Good one for the prompt. :)
ReplyDeleteThe prescribed norms are supposed to be followed and anyone going against these time-tested formulae are labelled as arrogant , foolish and headstrong. and those following the beaten path are model examples. I do not bear any grudge against those following the beaten path but do not stop anyone from following their heart.
DeleteSome risks are totally worth it and the untrodden path has more adventures to be had! :)
ReplyDeletenicely written Kalpana.. I agree with you - to follow one's heart is the best thing a person can do :)
I would never agree... and would encourage the kid to follow his heart and built his own path.
ReplyDeleteTeachers can actually change your lives with the things they say during those formative / vulnerable years.. I know of friends who still (after 2 decades) have those words ringing! Thought provoking post!
ReplyDeleteThat is how most creativity and originality gets killed.
ReplyDeleteGood take.
