"..................and we will kill the baby prince as we lynched the King and the Queen. and I will remember you." She stood still , like a statue but the words kept resonating and hearing them herself she could not bring to distrust herself. She had to act fast, and she stirred from her hiding place , behind the thick silk curtains and ran into the royal chamber where the little prince lay asleep, unaware of the conspiracy hatched by his own paternal uncle to usurp his accession to the throne.
The traitor for a few gold dimes did what was expected of him, faithfully.
She , from her hiding place watched with a suppressed breath and shed only a tear.
She was favorably remember-ed and suitably rewarded and as promised was given a safe passage into the deep woods , carrying her infant son, along with a few trusted soldiers.
She , stopped for a while, looked up at the Sun, paying respects to the slained royal couple , reminding their spirits , the promise that she didn't fail to keep , to protect and safeguard the baby Prince , who slept snugly in her arms while she moaned for the death of her infant son who would be buried besides the royal couple as their own child.
She, the trusted maid and caretaker, of the slain royal couple , would bring up the Prince , in hiding, unknown to the world and abide for the right time to claim the throne for the rightful heir.

My post contains 256 words.
Wow, that was an awesome take on the prompt, you could develop this into a full blown novel or at least a novella for sure.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked my post Jairam.
DeleteLoved to read it :)
ReplyDeleteSo tragic! I agree that this could be developed into something longer. Reminds me of the Septimus Heap series but much darker.
ReplyDeleteOh! What a sacrifice this woman made. As a mother, I don't know if I could do that :)
ReplyDeleteOh, this is the story of the really famous mother who sacrificed her own child for the Prince.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my favourite stories in our Hindi textbooks.
I don't think I've ever come across a mother's sacrifice that runs so deep.
This reminds me of something that could have happened in Game of Thrones.
