S/He was too late

Neha's
kohl lined almond eyes scanned the gigantic space as far as her gaze permitted
behind the diaphanous veil.

Damn
this Mumbai traffic ! Even at this off-peak hours, the metallic monsters inched at snail's
pace separated only by a breathing space on the hot tar road. Road rage was visible but did not do any good to clear the mess.
Ananya
glanced at her watch just in time when the red changed to green and she pressed
the accelerator and the car came to life again after an agonizing 30 seconds wait at the intersection.
She was too late, thought Ananya.
The meeting with the clients seemed to test the elasticity of
the time. Her mind was equally divided by the demands of her work and the duty towards her child.
She parked her car in the slotted area and made a dash
towards the door marked ‘ENTER’ in huge red letters.
Tiptoeing , she sat
with a thud on the seat that her eyes first laid on.
The maroon curtains were just beginning to roll up and Neha
looked beautiful and pristine as a princess in her white satin gown and a veil.
Neha's
kohl lined almond eyes scanned the gigantic space as far as her gaze permitted
behind the diaphanous veil.
And lo! Neha spotted her mother adorned with a big smile and
applauding her arrival on the stage. Ananya quickly wiped her moist cheeks and
looked forward to the Annual Gathering Programme as a single parent. Time did
not allow her the luxury to mourn and she slipped into the dual role of a
father and mother .
