Melody

The Mag

Musician in the Rain by Robert Doisneau

Music is in my blood.
A legacy of my family.
The reason for my being alive.
I worship thee .
But it's not my livelihood.
I cherish it.
I will protect it from all onslaught.
An umbrella , I hold over it
from re-mixes and mongrel-music,
from people who sell the melody
for a few dimes and
two seconds of fame.
My music is the living temple of God.
Its sanctity , never will be desecrated.

WOW – An animal’s take on things!

“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man.” ― Mark Twain

This time we’re aiming at making it more creative! You have to write a short story/incident (200-300 words) from an animal’s perspective.

I tiptoed , silently without a word  and peered from  behind my favourite hideout , a Warli painting , jutting out my head and  rolled my eyes to get a glimpse of the elegant Lady of the house , her nose buried in the folds of the crisp newspapers probably reading the PETA column. The Man of the house , a hen-pecked one , sat snug on the sofa  sipping green tea and  his eyes glued to National Geographic Channel.  The little girl playing with her teddy bear and pink balloons sat in between them , under their watchful gaze. These humans are obsessed with the four-legged creatures.

The little girl pushed the balloon up with both her hands and it touched the ceiling. WOW! What a pretty balloon, said I. And she caught me admiring the balloon and with a grimace , called out to her mother, " mamma , papa , look Lizzie behind the painting."

In an instant , the adults of the house sprang to their feet and the Man produced a broom out of thin air and was waving it like a sword. The Lady had already jumped on the sofa and was yelling instructions to her better-half to shoo me out of my den.
I wish I could contact Menaka Gandhi  or I will sue them for trespassing on my jurisdiction. The Aam Aadmi's symbol to sweep clean the dirt of corruption is being used as a weapon to evict a harmless lizard . I fill my belly with insects and keep their house clean but these humans exhibit no gratitude. Ungrateful creatures! The Man has succeeded in pushing me out of my cocoon and I am traversing  the length and breadth of the tiny house which has turned into a football ground and my goal is to get out of this cubicle. The little girl (God bless her) opens the main door and I make my way out of their house. They bang the door . 'Atithi Devo Bhava' is not practiced in this house. I am on the streets and homeless. Hello  reader , can I enter your house?

The bin

100 Words on Saturday 2014 – 3

An elderly man crumbled the tissue paper and carelessly tossed in the corner and walked out of the bakery shop. He picked up the crumbled tissue and dropped into the dustbin. His teacher, Miss Rose, in the class of ‘cleanliness and hygiene’, had explained the importance of civic sense. He felt proud having implemented her lesson. His grandmother having paid the bill held his little hand and made her way out of the bakery. He struggled to tell her of his deed but she was in no mood to listen. Little Rohan felt only Miss Rose would appreciate his action.

tempest

Phare de La Jument off the coast of Brittany by Jean Guichard

La Jument, off the coast of Brittany, photograph by Jean Guichard

The white surf, walls around me
gathering and lashing in glee.
While alone I stand
the onslaught of the fury.
The perils leave a wet kiss
on my cheeks,
the sorrows surrounds me
to strengthen me.
They know not that the lover in me
loves to flirt and court challenges.
Heartbreaks build me.
I will conquer them all
flaunt them as medals
to rise above everything.

Little did she know

Today’s prompt:

Little did she know

He stepped on the smooth floor and landed with a thud ,dripping wet. Her laughter resonated every nook and corner of the gigantic hall and an embarrassed Duryodhana  got up . Draupadi  teasingly said ,”the son of a blind  King is also  a blind ”.

Little did she know what was in store for the Pandavas.

Wednesday Prompt 2014 – 3

Little shoe Vidya Sury Wednesday Prompt

Today , her joy knew no bounds as she been gifted  with a pair of brand new shoes .

The swing oscillated to and fro  with a rhythmic creak. She gulped a mouthful of fresh air as the wooden plank on which she sat , was on a high  and let out the  inhaled air as she came down . This was the happiest moment for little Rekha as she on rare occasions had the luxury of playing in the park close to her home.

The shoe slipped off her foot and fell on the ground. Her heart sank.  Her tiny feet hung in the air as she desperately tried to stop the motion of the swing to retrieve her fallen shoe, her precious possession.

She jumped off the swing as it slowed down the pace of motion and slipped her tiny foot and fastened the velcro. Walking a few steps ahead , she heaved a sigh of relief and the swing swaying a few inches was forgotten by Rekha.

Rekha turned eight years old today , her joy knew no bounds as she been gifted  with a pair of brand new shoes by her employer.

Rekha rolled bidis with her mother to supplement their meager family income.

P.S. : There are many little children who are employed in unorganized sectors as helping
hands . They cannot attend school and playtime is a rare luxury. Stop child labour.
Report it to the concerned authorities.
