Chor ke daadi mein tinka

I am acknowledging knithaurs tag and participating in Protest against Smelly Stubble (P.A.S.S)

I had read a story when I was a child. I recollected it as I read Blogadda's Protest against Smelly Stubble Contest.

In a small village there lived many farmers who apart from farming activity used to rear hen for their poultry consumption. The hen would be counted by each farmer and kept safely in a big bamboo basket at night in their courtyard. The farmer , Shiva, noticed one of his hen missing. He searched and enquired with all his farmer neighbours.

Shiva's six year son , Ganesha , had seen the hen in Charandas's courtyard. When confronted , Charandas feigned ignorance. Charandas owned a small grocery shop and was a compulsive liar and a thief.

The dispute was placed before the  village panchayat. The headman was an old and wise person who white silver hair stood testimony to the many struggles he had faced and tackled.

He called a few suspects from the village along with Charandas. He made them stand in a line before the villagers and said that the spirit of the hen would torment the culprit.

The village headman glared at Charandas. Charandas felt uneasy. The village headman pulled a feather from this long beard and displayed it before the gathered crowd.

Charandas fell at the feet of the headman and apologized profusely. Charandas was asked to part with his hen as punishment.

His long unkempt facial hair was the 'root cause' (pun intended) of him being exposed.

Chor ke daadi mein tinka.

Readers have you read this story in your childhood?

caught

                                                            image

Write Over the Weekend theme for this week

This time your entry must contain, ‘I caught him/her looking at me.’

My son has stepped into his teens. The adolescent phase brings about physical and mental changes. The mental metamorphosis is marred by the changes in moods, irritability , asserting himself which may have gone unnoticed by the outside world.

The physical changes are distinct and marked by hoarse voice, rapid rise in height and sprouting of a faint hairline curve above the lips and sprouting of fine facial hair giving many a 'hair-raising ' experience. His class-mates being some months older to him have already advanced to full blown facial hair giving an unkempt and shabby façade.
Seeing his class-mates resemble a grizzly bear, he has vowed to go for a clean shaven neat look at an appropriate time. I smile at his wise decision.

Before stepping out of the threshold , he glances at the mirror  and asks for my opinion. Off-late he is taken to spraying perfume on his clothes. The fragrance spreading in the house is making me sniff after his generous overdose. I ignored him. From the periphery  of the eye , I caught him looking at me for approval. I smiled . He took the hint and started to pack his satchel to attend tuition classes. I know soon I will have to make space for an after-shave lotion and a shaving kit.

My eyes are moist. It was only yesterday that I brought him wrapped in soft , warm, cotton clothes from the hospital . Today he stands tall and  proud at 176 cms. And I am a proud mother. How time flies........................

P.A.S.S.

Panchali-ji and  PariKnitha Urs  tagged me to participate in Protest Against Smelly Stubble (P.A.S.S.)

In ancient Rome , the citizens tonsured their heads and wore wigs to maintain hygiene. They sported no beard or moustache  and were clean shaven.

I do not prescribe to go bald but the stubble and unkempt look is a strict no-no affair for me. A stubble or a beard or an unkempt look is a sign of thumbs-down and the prerogative of the lazy and laid back species. A hairy face tries to camouflage  the facial emotions thereby masking to earn the title of  being surreptitious. Moreover the Indian climate is prone to sweat and grime  paving the way for hideouts for micro-organisms of dubious nature. Making a style statement with a hairy appearance is like committing hara-kiri. Gone are the days when a French beard  or a goatee gave a rugged or a masculine look.

While on the other hand , the clean -shaven look gives an authoritative air of being a gentleman , suave and debonair and gives a peek-a-boo of the man's clean (pun intended) character. A fresh and a presentable image leaves a lasting imprint on the minds of the viewers. Clean shaven men are regarded to be hygienic conscious leaving a trail of fragrant after-shave lotion. The facial hair need not be a sure sign of being manly or aggressive. But a clean shaven face lovingly reflects the concern and care for the wife or girl-friend. I need not exaggerate on this point. Every man does not have the aura of Amitabh Bachchan to sport a salt and pepper beard.

68% of the women think that clean shaven men smell good and I am one among the majority . My husband is very particular about shaving and maintaining hygiene. So clean shaven faces rules the world and a big thumbs-up from me.

The daughters of Bharat Mata are not disrobed
of their modesty and move unhindered.

Every lady is respected
as a human being and not taunted.

Every neta fulfills each  promise
and treats his constituency as a sacred premise.

The files in Govt. dept navigate
                               without bribe or fabricate.

The media is free from fear
                               and works without favour.

The headlines of newspapers
do not scream of rapes and murders.

Scams are relegated to dictionary,
and every child is a visionary.

Reservations are only for railway berths,
every mother gives a girl child,  birth.

Clean water , housing and food are  fundamental rights
'aam aadmi' doesn't have to put up a fight.

Dirt, litter and garbage do not adorn the street,
                                 clean air spreads to greet.

The highways and roads are smooth
                                 accident free are the youth.

Senior citizens are safe in their homes,
respected till the journey to tomes.

Deaths of the citizens are natural,
no terrorism, bomb blasts or gun barrel.

Country's progress is not measured  by  per capita income  and sensex
                                  but by gross happiness index.

Is this utopia or am I expecting too much?
This is My Delhi Manifesto that I draft.

Move with Smart Suraksha.

Seeking Smart Suraksha!

Smart Suraksha Contest

  • -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • When Draupadi was being disrobed and dishonoured by Dushasana in the presence of the Bheeshma Pitamaha and Dhritarashtra  and the entire court , Draupadi did not need a Smart Suraksha. She prayed to Lord Krishna and Lord Krishna  'clothed' her modesty with unending yarns of sari that Dushasana was tired of pulling the neverending cloth. But the daughters of modern day Bharat have no such saviour in form of Lord Krishna.

When the photojournalist along with her male friend had dared to go into the defunct and abandoned Shakti Mills for her routine work , she was stripped of her modesty by hungry wolves in broad daylight. I wished she has a Smart Suraksha which would have averted the tragedy of her body and soul.

I wish Nirbhaya had the good fortune of carrying the Smart Suraksha when she had boarded the bus on the ill-fated late evening and if she had done so then today she would have been alive to see her future take shape of her dreams.

I wish the factory worker from Navi Mumbai had the opportunity of carrying the Smart Suraksha when she boarded the train. She would have been located when she fell off the train , hit by a urchin .This application would have saved her life.

I wish whenever any college going girl is harassed, molested or eve-teased , she should have access to Smart Suraksha.

When a lady walking down on the footpath is at the gun-point looted of her gold jewellery, she should be able to use Smart Suraksha.

When a CSW is taken advantage , I wish she is able to use Smart Suraksha.

I wish even school going girls should be fortified with Smart Suraksha , and should be able to call for help when someone touches her inappropriately, or is offered sweets by strangers.

Whenever a lady in public places or within the four walls of the house feels insecure , help should be available with the press of a button with the Help of Smart Suraksha.

These are some of reported cases in the newspapers and the media. There may be more unreported cases of injustice heaped on women be it rape , domestic violence , loot , arson and physical harassment. Every women/girl should carry this appliance as she carries her essentials in her purse to survive in this concrete jungle. Troubles and tragedy do not knock on the doors and arrive but shake up unexpectedly at any odd hours  and odd places.
The pepper spray can to some extent help but the exact location of the harassed lady cannot be determined . So ladies arm yourself with the Smart Suraksha App, an Android Application that aims at making the women feel safe. This App, at the press of a single button, sends your message of help to five pre-chosen contacts from your contact list. An additional feature of this app is that along with your message for help, it also sends across your location even if the GPS on your cellphone is switched off. Thus, ladies can be reassured of help available at all times.

This is a boon to all ladies , irrespective of  all ages, working or a home-maker or a college going girl. Do not hesitate to take the help of Smart Suraksha. Hamari Suraksha hamari haath mein hai Smart Suraksha ki saath.

P.S. : Senior citizens should also be armed with Smart Suraksha facility. They are the most vulnerable people to attacks.

You can download Smart Suraksha App on your phone from Google Play Store here.
