'Test'ing times

Loud noises knocked on her skull. The clock struck nine, every stroke sending

her body into shivers. Jolted, she got up with rivulets trickling down her bosom.

She sprinted into the venue clutching her duffel.  The Physics lessons seem to

echo into her psyche, her nervous feet refused to move forward. She stood rooted

into the deserted school compound. She brought her wrist up. The seconds were

ticking. “I overslept, missed the test. I will flunk. Oh God Newton, help me!  ”

Her quivering lips widened into series of smiles letting off the suppressed tension.

Phew.

Physics test is tomorrow.

Prompt: Write 100 words on anything without using the letter A.

conquest

Oxygen barely flowed into her nasal passage but she was flush with the

excitement despite the arduous journey. Every sinew in her body screamed.

She was not alone. The wafting clouds kissed her triumph, long-cherished,

now fulfilled.

The howling winds acknowledged her presence.

She unburdened her baggage. Her needs were small.

She like the many had harboured a faint flicker of failure. Her expectations

were moderate.

But try she would, never bow to failures. She secretly kept her aspirations high.

She hoisted the tri-colour on Mt.Everest and said a prayer.

The climb down was treacherous but her adrenaline rising up.

I would never forgive....

Wordy Wednesday #3- August 2015 #SentencePrompt

this Week: Sentence Prompt  I would never forgive her for what she’d done.

Seeing both of them locked in a passionate embrace, he storms out of the

thatched hut searing with rage.

The shimmering water starts to flow backwards, the monkeys chatter

wildly and the petals huddle closely embracing their fragrance.

The celestial beings hide behind the clouds to watch the earthly

catastrophe.

"I will never forgive her for what she'd done", and a curse escapes his

volcanic throat.

Gathering his angvastram and having satiated his lust he beats a hasty

retreat leaving her at the mercy of her old husband.

Queen

This Week: Phrase Prompt
Powerful yet graceful
This week’s prompt comes from B-A-R member, writer and blogger,
Eloquent Mind

Prophesied as the future Beauty Queen, she had the world at her feet.

Her conviviality with co-contestants, articulate answers to the judge’s

questions and her propensity to charm the media made her an

uncrowned Queen.

Her Swarovski studded diaphanous evening gown vied with the galaxy

of stars above.

A swirl of the gown brought her to the ground, literally.

A collective gasp ensued.

But true to the training imparted, she discarded the broken stiletto

and completed the ramp-walk with a smile.

Thunderous applause echoed.

The media labelled her walk as powerful yet graceful.

The crown was lost but hearts captured.

Scream

Meandering fluidity
barricades erected
changing course,
altering fate.

Treasures of the womb
dug out with greed
and not need
porous Earth.

Green canopy pruned
to build shelters.
bare and brown
stands the planet

Creating clones
the genetic seeds destroyed.
mighty Ganges sullied
land reclamations

Anger bursts from my seams
 molten lava spews
Tsunamis roll out from my heart.
When I grind my teeth and
clench my jaws, the crust shakes
tumbles and quakes.

Mercury soars
 there is no respite
famine and helplessness reigns
Mother Earth scream at her little children.
Stop this destruction!
we have only one Earth to live on.

forlorn farms

Keeping an eye on the ruckus and another on the bunch of assignment sheets,

I was amused to see an unusual drawing instead of words scribbled.

Rohan with a morose face said, “This is my family; parents, grandparents, me,

my sibling and these little ones are my kitten”.

Each tomato glistened from the bright crayon hues.

“The untimely rains destroyed our standing tomato crop and only these have

survived”, and saline pearls streamed down the innocent checks.

Nature and its vagaries cannot be commanded but the student drop-out rate

could be checked.

“Waive off school-fees”, screamed the morning newspaper headlines.

Not every-day am I hurtled at, nay served a delicious lunch of corn cob

garnished with salt and chilli powder.

The tender kernels were a feast for my infant who gobbled with relish.

A bunch of school-children guffawed at me sending shrill screeches tearing my

ear-drums.

I thought this behaviour was the prerogative of the apes but these

two legged species are fierce contenders. A little one climbed deftly on the

parapet and poised himself between the iron bars. Thank God for the zoo

authorities for barricading us from the Homo sapiens.

Humans are going back to their roots. Sigh!

Saga of two roses

                                                       BAR_WW_Badege

Thanks Shalini Nair,Sulekha Rawat and Sheethal Susan Jacob
for the lovely phrase prompt : Love for all seasons.

14th February

A bunch of red roses with water droplets sprinkled on them stood at the busy intersection drawing envious glances of the pedestrians. Their thorns were shorn
off, hurting their tender body.

“Happy Valentine Day”, they said to each other before being separated.

All the roses were sold off.

15th February

The civic worker dumps the partially faded red flowers into the garbage bin.

He fondly embraces her and says, “Love for all seasons, Love for all reasons”

The two red lovers were finally united to return to dust.

They were happy to be catalyst of love to mankind.

Life is as you see it.

                     Wordy Wednesday #3 at B-A-R

This Week: Word Prompt is Squeamish given by  Aditi Kaushiva who blogs here.

“I am too squeamish about little crabs running around my legs”, said Mary as she
picks up each wonder of the ocean to embellish her pottery design. The ocean
waves gently frolicking, the sunshine kissing the golden sand do not tempt Mary.

“Life is as you see it. Fishermen cast their nets, the diver gets the pearls, and
the beach-walker get the shells. We get what we want. The ocean is the same
for all”, said Suzie as she drops the handful of shells.
Painting the scenery on canvas, their mother piques, “the twins are so different
from each other”.

the mask

                                Wordy Wednesday #2 at B-A-R

The CCTV cameras at the porch revealed nothing.

A teenager could not disappear from this earth without leaving footprints,
thought Inspector Sher.

While his staff scanned for clues, he looked at the unusual. A quaint wooden
mask mounted on the wall with muddy imprints on the floor beneath seemed
to beckon his attention.

He turned sideways to hear the faint beats of, ‘Highway to Hell.’

He pulled the mask and inserted the javelin into the keyhole. The resonating
strains of music grew louder.

The teen walked out with blood on his hands while the mask from his father’s
face fell.

Say

Wordy Wednesday #1 at B-A-R

This Week: Sentence Prompt
What is it that I really want to say?
This week’s prompt comes from B-A-R member, writer and blogger, Beloo Mehra who blogs here.

What is it that I really want to say
Words keep encircling
In the folds of the gray matter.
Ideas rise and fall
Like the waves of the ocean
Thoughts sprout
But the buds are nipped
Stories are penned
On the blank slate of mind
Unseen, unread and unheard.
Riot of colours are splashed
On the canvas of life
Are they interpreted?
In a way I wish
Or languish like prisoners
Awaiting trial?
I close my senses
To evade, dodge and flee
But the whirlpool embraces me
To suffocate.
I wish to live.
Do I really want to say anything?
