Bubbles

               Five Sentence Fiction – Bubbles

The dark, gloomy atmosphere with the rains pouring was a dampener

on her mental landscape.

"I wish to see the myriad colours of the rainbow", said she.

Suddenly hundreds of bubbles danced before her eyes, the

pear-shaped structure changing hues and bursting at the slightest

touch.

Her eyes widened , a smile broke out increasing her face value and she

danced to the melody of her heart.

He smiled and whispered,"love in every season , love for every reason".

scorching road

DSC_1643

This week’s word: SCORCHING

Getting down from the cocooned comforts of his air-conditioning, he tilts his

head on one side and critically surveys the damage done.

He shakes his head in despondency and the the thought of trudging to the

nearest aid , maybe miles away, reduces the intrepid explorer in him to a

grain of fine sand.

Armed with a parasol and a bottle of Adam's ale and dark ghosts of the past ,

he sets out, checking out the harsh , dry and shrub filled  terrain.

The scenery looked glossy from his shell but the scorching discomfort ,

leaving him fatigued , irritated  and chafed had second thoughts and serious

doubts of  romancing with the camera-lens or be a prisoner in the boring

desk job.

Peter's wide grin was the highlight of the lonely arduous journey when he sighted

the wooden log-cabin with the sign-board, " Sid's Garage".

The Thief

SOURCE

This week’s word: THIEF

Gloved hands deftly drilled hard into the keyhole noiselessly , with

 abated breath.

click... clang..... a turn ......and the vault door was thrown open.

Smoke arose in soft rings , faded the masked thief's vision and the

suffocating vapours forced the masked cheetah to reveal the real identity.

Long tresses unveiled and delicate feminine facial features were captured

on CCTV.

Gosh!............it was a bait and she had fallen into a trap.

waves of memories

Five Sentence Fiction – Memories

SOURCE

Five pair of soft hands applauded to the symphony of the winds and the

rise and fall of the tides, squealing and squeaking of mirth and gay abandon.

The promise of being together and being there for one another was spoken in

unsaid words and read in each other's innocent eyes.

Seasons changed with the waves and the hands were not longer little and the

palms chaffed with the trials and tribulations of life.

But the solemn promise fresh in their memories with each passing decade.

The beach echoed with the soft laughter from the five throats, renewing their

bonds of friendship and togetherness with grey in their hair and wrinkles on

their faces.

forgotten

Five Sentence Fiction – Forgotten

"I am Rose, your new nurse", she answered to his query, assuaging his fears.

She fed him as his trembling wrinkled fingers could no longer hold the spoon.

She stared lovingly at him as he drifted off to his siesta holding her little finger for succour.

She slowly pulled her finger away from his gentle grip as two decades ago Little Rose held his finger for security.

The two roles morphed into time completing the circle of life as  she changed into the garb of a a care-giver from a pampered daughter.

Alzheimer has robbed off his memories, memories which Rose has cherished and kept alive in her heart.

Ray of hope

Five Sentence Fiction – Glimmer

When my feet could no longer keep pace through the narrow, dark and winding
alleys , I took refuge in the corner of a broken , crumbling wall, covering my
eyes in my cupped palms.

The dark shapeless shadow howled around me , screaming , screeching trying
to scare and agonise me.

I opened my eyes , stared deep into the unknown fear and it crumbled ,
dissipated  like sand grains of the past.

I  kept gazing at the crimson horizon while the Sun God got up from his
pillow to sprinkle a glimmer of faith and hope on me.

A new beginning of dawn was waiting to embrace me with open arms.

Five Sentence Fiction – Grief

They approached the lady whose weary eyes  withheld a thousand sorrows but shone brightly groping for a flicker of hope which seemed distant across the horizon.

But they had no promises to offer her which exacerbated  the task of the junior doctor and the Medical Social Worker, making them feel guilty.

The ventilator had to be removed robbing her of her only son , a truck driver , an accident victim , trying to avoid a careless pedestrian, jaywalking.

They counselled  her , before obtaining her consent and she requested them for some moments to grieve in privacy.

Tears rolled down uncontrollably as she  buried her face into her shivering cupped palms , stifling her sobs as a ray of satisfaction spread on her wrinkled face that her son would continue to live a harvested life in an anonymous person's body.

pages of life.

Five Sentence Fiction – Pages

                                    SOURCE

The papers rested uncomfortably on my Burma teak-wood study table , unread, unseen by me.

The presence of the life-less reams of sheet gave me a sleepless, disturbed night of tossing and turning of indecision, halting the slender ray of hope.

The path of our life suddenly split, branching into another direction and you chose to tread the unfamiliar path, all alone.

A decade ago , I smiled , your cheeks blushed crimson red as the ink dried on the page and we were united.

As the first rays of the morning sunrise , I pick up the pen , freeing you from the bondage of my heart.

She saw and her heart desired him.

But his heart-strings were tied elsewhere.

She couldn't take a ‘no’ for an answer and pursued him relentlessly.

When all doors were closed, she resorted to blackmail.

He knocked on her door to drill some sense into her brains only to find her limp body hanging on the ceiling.

furious

                              Lillie McFerrin Writes

Five Sentence Fiction – Furious

This week the prompt is : FURIOUS

The high tide at this time of  twilight  saw the furious waves lash against the cement tetra-pods sending a swirl of surf and sprinkling moisture on the parapet of the Marine Drive where I sat in a pensive mood while the cool breeze caressed my cheeks and the smell of the sea assailed my olfactory nerves.

The scenario seems to reflect my inner state of my turmoil-ed mind as nothing was going right for me; and I was left with my professional career curve dipping , my girl-friend avoided me like plague and the whole Universe has decided to conspire against me.

I was contemplating  the ticking hands of the wrist watch when a vibrating sensation on my right hip pocket broke the chain of my thoughts and I absentmindedly pulled it out to see a familiar number flash on the screen.

"Your book has been nominated for the Critics Choice Award " , said Angela ," and the sales are sky-rocketing."

I looked up at the twinkling crimson sky as my career , my sweetheart Angela, are smiling at me and the whole Universe is at my feet.
